Syn-Fit Criterium

Today was day 1 of what was to be a great weekend full of racing. Team Fitness Together was scheduled to be in three races in the Syn-Fit Criterium in Chantilly, VA today and four in the Casey Auto Group Criterium in Newport News on Sunday. Sadly, (what I'm sure is) a government-bred super virus has burrowed into my lungs and prevented me from riding since Monday. I missed out on the first Masters 35+ 4/5 race I've ever seen and the a Cat 4 BAR race. Wick and Kyle were able to make it, though. In the abbreviated race report I received, Wick's Cat 4 race was pretty fast and relativey easy. There were 85 or so riders fighting to stay on the front of a main field that allowed nothing to escape. No corners or inclines made it a fairly uneventful course with no good places for an attack. Kyle's Cat 3 race was similar. He was at the front on the bell lap but was swallowed up prior to the line. I'm waiting for results to be posted.

Tomorrow, we're taking Benny and Sadie to Newport News for the '9 and Under Race' and to watch Wick, Kyle and Tim race in the 4, 3 and 5 races, respectively. We'll get pictures and details of those races and maybe a few candid shots of the virus if it shows its ugly self.

For anyone that's stumbled upon this post while under attack by a virus of their own and wondering if they should ride, my extensive research has led me to the following conclusions about riding when sick: if it's above the neck, go ahead and ride but take it easy. If it's in your chest or if you have a fever, stay home and watch your TSB line reach new heights. You're not paid enough to risk pneumonia.
